Winter’s End and Art

As God sends spring at winter’s end and Birds return to build again – as dark woods quicken into green beneath the kiss of April’s rain, so shall I wake one happy day and feel the pulse of life anew, looking out with fearless  eyes towards a broader brighter view – discovering forgotten dreams and happiness long denied – learning how to live again, by many sorrows purified. As new sap rises in the bough and bursts  the folded buds apart, so will hope bring forth her flowers and joy return unto my heart. -Strong

A Prayer and Art

Lord support us all the day long of this troublous life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed and the fever of life is over and our work is done.

Then, of Thy great mercy grant us safe lodging, and holy rest, and peace at the last, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

Confucius Says & Art

More on: In search of truth…

There are three marks of a superior man; being virtuous, he is free from anxiety, being wise, he is free from perplexity, being brave, he is free from fear.

The Art Spirit

These are the moments in our lives, there are moments in the day, when we seem to see beyond the usual. Such are the moments of our greatest happiness. Such are the moments of our greatest wisdom. It was in this hope that the arts were invented. – Henri

Minute Fractions & Art

The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions – the little soon forgot charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment, and the countless infinitesimals  of pleasurable and genial feeling. -Coleridge

Plein Air in Kansas & Immigrants

Title: Silo – Sunrise March 2017 I love to paint outdoors when the weather lets me. I live in Kansas so the weather and wind is well known for being very harsh in every season. Sometimes I paint what it feels like outside to me rather than what a scene may actually look like. 👇🏻 Example below.

This year Im focusing on painting the landscape or things found around home or in nature exclusively through plein air or my photography. I hope you will follow along or join me on this year long journey. I am a daily painter and crave new challenges to incorporate into my sessions as each daily painting is a new exercise in learning.

Most of us love vintage/antique items and I’m blessed to have a steady abundance in those things. I’m a person of simple means and most of the things I have accumulated were given to me or handed down through the generations from my family or friends and are in one way or another meaningful to me.  The things I have are not particularly valuable monetarily but to me they hold memories and nostalgia which make them symbols usually  about ; faith, love, a life event, struggle or hardship, birth or even death .  My family as well as many of your families immigrated to this country. Mine from Scotland in the 1800’s. Many of my ancestors died during wartime. It is a miracle I am even here at all so I try to make the best of what I have and do what I can do to connect with people and share good thoughts and art. 🌿

Anyway, besides all of that..this is a discipline challenge for me through painting and in renewing my appreciation for the things I have. Also for the record , I love the people in my life also – I’m just a terrible portrait painter. 😁 We cant have it all can we?!

I hope you come back and check my progress and/or share your thoughts.
